Important Notice: End of Migration Support for Versions Below 2.0
Nearly a year ago, we took a major step forward in the evolution of Expiry Traker: we transformed the app—which previously operated solely offline and locally on your device—into a modern platform built on an offline-first architecture, featuring continuous cloud synchronization and direct integration with Validades.com.
To ensure a seamless transition, we embedded an automatic conversion routine directly within the app: when updating to version 2.0 or higher and opening the app, all products stored in the old format are automatically converted to the new database structure.
The vast majority of our users have already updated and are enjoying all the new features with enhanced stability and performance. However, we still notice a small number of users running older versions (below 2.0.0), despite daily in-app notifications requesting the upgrade.
For this reason, we are announcing that we will soon permanently remove the legacy migration mechanism and all support for the old database.
Who is and who is not affected?
✅ You DO NOT need to worry if:
- You are already on version 2.0.0 or higher: If you updated the app in recent months, your data migration has already completed successfully and you are completely safe.
- You use Expiry Traker for Teams: The collaborative app for teams was built from day one on the new platform and does not rely on this legacy migration routine.
⚠️ You need to take action immediately if:
- You are still using a version below 2.0.0 of the individual app (Expiry Traker).
Why is migration support ending?
Maintaining backward compatibility with legacy database formats for extended periods introduces significant technical overhead. Retaining legacy database code needlessly increases app size, slows down regular updates, and restricts our ability to deliver new features requested by the community.
After nearly a year of keeping the automatic converter active across all released versions, it is time to streamline the codebase and remove legacy remnants to keep innovating.
What happens if you do not update now?
- If you update now: The current app version still includes the automatic migration engine. Your existing products will be preserved and migrated instantly the first time you open the app.
- If you do not update now: Once the upcoming release that removes migration support is published, the app will no longer recognize legacy database files. If you delay updating until after the migration code is retired, your local products will not be converted and you will need to re-register them from scratch.
What should you do?
Protect your product catalog by following these simple steps today:
- Open your device's app store (Google Play Store on Android or App Store on iOS).
- Search for Expiry Traker and tap Update.
- Open the app immediately after updating to let the automatic migration finish.
How to check your current app version:
Open the app and navigate to Settings (or the "About / More" section). If your version shows 2.0.0 or higher, you are already up to date and no further action is needed.
Having trouble updating? Here is how to fix common issues
If you encounter difficulties while attempting to update the app, check the following solutions:
💾 Insufficient storage on your device
- Cause: App stores require additional free storage during downloads to extract and safely install updates beyond the app package size itself.
- How to resolve: Free up internal storage by deleting large videos, temporary download files, or unused applications. Restart your device and try updating again via Google Play or the App Store.
🛡️ Rooted device or modified OS (Google Play Integrity)
- Cause: To ensure data integrity and secure cloud synchronization, modern versions (2.0.0+) require compliance with Google's Play Integrity API. Devices with root access, unlocked bootloaders, or custom ROMs may be flagged as non-compliant by Google Play, preventing the installation or visibility of newer versions.
- How to resolve:
- Unroot your device or restore official factory firmware.
- Verify your device certification in Google Play: open Google Play Store, tap your profile icon > Settings > About, and check Play Protect certification (it should read Device is certified).
- Refer to Google Play Help documentation if your device fails integrity or Play Protect certification.
🔄 Update button not showing in the store?
- If the store only shows "Open" even though you are on an older version, clear the store cache: go to Android Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage and tap Clear cache. Then open Google Play again and search for Expiry Traker.
